Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home
Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time
"(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" was recorded only three days before Otis Redding's death. He considered it unfinished, having whistled the tune of one verse that he intended to compose lyrics for later. The song was released (with the place-holding whistling intact) in January 1968 and became Redding's only number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. (Wikipedia)
